Central Hospital (Toranomon Hospital)
Built a foundation of postwar hospital architecture, including Japan’s first central core and double corridor-type wards
This architecture proved to be an epoch-making work of today’s hospital architecture in setting the outpatient department and the arrangement of sickbeds, by focusing on patient-oriented considerations, separating departments by floors and not by wings of the building, and adopting such new concepts as the centralization of care and management functions, an outpatient department featuring separate lines of traffic for patients and staff, the installation of air-conditioning systems for the entire building, and other factors.
