Uji Tokushukai Hospital

Uji Tokushukai Hospital

Major base for community-based health care - hospital complex that constitutes a medical town block

This plan for relocating and rebuilding Uji Tokushukai Hospital, having a role as a citizens hospital, has been promoted to improve a superannuated building with insufficient space, build a medical town block, ensure medical continuity during natural disasters, and reinforce emergency medical care. Therefore, the plan for this town block included construction of long-term care health facilities, special nursing home (different site), and day nursery in addition to the new hospital, thereby providing a complete set of medical care, nursing care, and welfare. Furthermore, the adoption of a seismic isolation structure and the supply of more than one lifeline realized a disaster-resistant hospital that can continue operations 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The vertical direct connection of operating theaters, intensive care units, heart center, and heliport with an emergency medical center at the midpoint and the proximate placement of related departments have enabled more advanced acute-phase operations. The plan also includes fully flat parking that can be used as an emergency shelter during disasters and parking reservoir facilities that can control rain runoff, thus contributing to the community.
