Dependable psychiatric hospital with enhanced rehabilitation service and acute-phase medical care
Inokashira Hospital is a psychiatric hospital with a long history since its opening in 1927. Its consulting subjects are psychiatry, neurology, and psychosomatic medicine. This reconstruction plan was made with two main features: enhancement of acute-phase medical care and improvement of seismic performance due to deterioration of the existing hospital buildings.
Therefore, an improvement plan was made with an eye to the future, requiring systematic extension and reconstruction and equipment renewal. Due to the site constraints, the priority was given to a compact and efficient traffic line so that the construction of new buildings could be planned without a temporary building. The exterior has a simple design with emphasis on eaves and balconies as well as functionality to minimize dirty external appearance of walls. Furthermore, the eaves, balconies, and outer walls were designed in monotone colors to emphasize the overall spatial effect and shading.
