“Super-first-aid” medicine focused on the function of the state-of-the-art treatment of infectious diseases and authorization as an advanced emergency medical service center
The three pillars at the center of this plan are: (1) strengthening the function of the state-of-the-art treatment of infectious diseases, (2) expanding the capacity to handle emergencies, and (3) reinforcing the base for treatment as a comprehensive medical center. A transformer room and a generator room are located on the top floor of the extended building in order to maintain emergency treatment capability, even in case of a large-scale disaster including tsunami. And to secure smooth and safe lines of traffic for patients, staff and logistics, multiple skyways are equipped between the existing and newly extended buildings. Consideration was given to exterior design for ensuring harmony with the existing building and alleviating any oppressive feeling. Eighty housing units are built on the higher floors for nursing staff, and floor space of 5,000 m2 in the existing building has been renovated.
