A stronghold for protecting the health, safety and security of citizens
This facility accurately responds to diversifying health risks and plays a role as the core institution in the area of public health, as seen from scientific and technical aspects. The facility consists of four divisions—the infectious diseases and epidemiological information office, microorganism division, physics and chemistry division, and administration division. It conducts investigations, studies, tests and inspections (including the provision of information to prevent infectious diseases, and the safety verification and inspection of foods, drugs and medicines), and quickly responds to health hazards so as to ensure a sanitary living environment. As measures to respond to future changes, the new institute was designed by adopting a long-span structure without pillars in the rooms and systematized facility shafts, which will enable modifications without interrupting studies. As for the measures against disasters, the institute was made operable 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by adopting a seismic isolation structure and providing facility backup systems.
